Regular maintenance for your canopy, porch or garden room
Although an aluminium porch or garden room requires minimal maintenance, a good cleaning is never out of the question. This will ensure that you will still be enjoying that lovely spot in your garden not only now, but ten years from now, without any worries.
Here we share some handy tips with you, so your porch or garden room will be shining inside and out in no time!
How often should I clean my porch?
This varies for everyone, as it depends on where you live. Do you live in an urban or industrial area? Clean your roof or veranda at least once a quarter. Otherwise, pollution from exhaust fumes and other nasty substances will accumulate, which you want to prevent. Even if you live by the coast, it is advisable to clean your roof or veranda every season.
Do you live in a wooded area or have many trees in your garden? Then gutters generally get clogged faster. Check your gutters every month to prevent accumulation and flooding.
The maintenance of aluminium profiles
Cleaning a canopy or porch can be divided into four tasks, namely the roof, gutter, frame and any glass walls. We recommend always working from top to bottom. This will prevent you from having to start over halfway through.
Roof maintenance
Always start by cleaning the roof of the canopy or porch. With a sturdy ladder and a long garden hose, this is easy to do. Remove loose dirt and leaves, and use cleaning shampoo to intensely clean the polycarbonate or glass.
Gutter maintenance
As with the rest of your home, it is important to clear the gutters of your canopy or porch of leaves, twigs and other debris. Doing this regularly, especially in the spring and autumn, will prevent the gutters from clogging and preventing rainwater from draining.
Frame maintenance
The best way to keep your canopy or porch frame looking its best is to clean it regularly with lukewarm soapy water. When doing so, be careful not to use products containing ammonia or sodium. Avoid solvents and do not use scouring pads and sandpaper. These can damage the frame.
Maintenance of sliding glass doors
Clean your sliding walls or doors last. For this, use the same product you use to wash your windows.
